There are 52 cards in a deck, divided into four suits of 13 ranks each.

All suits are of equal value i.e. no suit is higher than any other suit.

The ranks are as follows, from highest to lowest:

Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

A hand is a combination of cards.

The number of cards in a hand depends on the game being played.

In Texas hold ’em, a starting hand consists of two hole cards, which belong solely to the player and remain hidden from the other players. Five community cards are also dealt into play.
